This was a rather involved project, but that’s my favorite kind when it comes to illustrating!
After my client told me about some of her egg roll flavors, I used the information to create a group of characters, with each one reflecting a flavor.
I wanted the typography in the logo to have the same playful, whimsical vibe as the characters did, so I went with a hand-lettered font with a variable lineweight.
The Design Process
I started by creating a character base that I could use as a template. I then scanned that in, replicated it, lowered the opacity, and then reprinted it, so I could draw on top of the templates.
I sketched out each eggroll and their signature look (aside from pepperoni pizza, who I think I did entirely in Illustrator) .
I then scanned those sketches back in, and created their vector likenesses on top, while using the same body form for each roll (though I did switch around their air bubbles so they wouldn’t look like clones!)
The Final Result
And here is the end result! A delicious group of little buddies.
